Here’s our list of common dental emergencies:

Knocked out tooth

Make an emergency appointment to see your dentist. The sooner a knocked out tooth is re-implanted the more likely it is to fix itself back into the gum.

In the meantime

  • Rinse the tooth in milk, holding it by the crown (avoiding the roots)
  • If possible, put the tooth back into the socket
  • If you cannot re-implant the tooth, store it in a clean container filled with milk

Broken Tooth

Any obvious damage to a tooth should be treated as soon as possible. Chips or fractures can affect the living tissue inside the tooth, causing problems in the future. Your dentist can prevent the damage from getting worse.

In the meantime

  • Get to your dentist as soon as possible
  • Apply a cold pack to the cheek or lips over the broken tooth
  • Rinse your mouth well with warm water
  • Store any fragments in a clean container in milk or your saliva

Toothache

If you experience a toothache, call us immediately. We will see you as soon as possible. The treatment would depend on the reason behind the tooth pain.

In the meantime

  • Get to your dentist as soon as possible
  • Rinse the mouth regularly with water
  • Try to clean any debris from any obvious cavities
  • Use dental floss to remove any trapped particles of food
  • If swelling is present, place a cold compress to the outside of the cheek

Chipped Teeth

Teeth can chip for any number of reasons. Basic causes include:

  • Clamping down on hard substances, similar to ice or hard treat
  • Falls or auto crashes
  • Playing physical games without a mouth guard
  • Crushing your teeth when you rest/sleep

In the meantime

  • Place ice on your cheek if you feel any discomfort in the area.
  • Floss to expel debris that might have got trapped between your teeth.
  • Abstain from biting with the chipped tooth.
  • Swipe clove oil around the concerned gums to numb the area.

Wisdom Teeth

They are the last teeth to come out and sometimes there isn’t sufficient space for them. Many people might face wisdom tooth pain if they come out at a weird angle, exerting pressure on the nearby teeth. These teeth are also more prone to get decayed as cleaning the last molars can be a tough task. So, if you experience pain due to your wisdom teeth visit your emergency dentist without any delays.

In the meantime

  • Call up your dentist and ask for his advice to control the pain, till the time you reach the clinic.
  • Flush the wisdom tooth with salt water.

Root Canal

A root canal is an endodontic treatment, wherein the infected tooth pulp is removed from your teeth, and a filling material is inserted in its place. The procedure helps to preserve your natural smile and stops the spread of decay. When the infection is too intense to reach your oral nerves that you would require root canal therapy, you might feel pain that should be addressed by your dentist nearby.

In the meantime

  • You should follow all the instructions given by your dentist.
  • Maintain a strict oral hygiene routine.
